What Is The Future Of The Amazon Web Services And The Cloud Computing Market?
Cloud computing has been transforming the way people work and access information & data globally. With cloud computing, one is able to get on-demand delivery of IT resources over the internet with different efficient price models. Thanks to cloud computing, organizations no longer have to maintain physical data centers and servers, while still being able to access technology services – computing power, storage, and databases from the cloud service providers. The three most popular models of cloud computing are IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service), PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) and SaaS (Software-as-a-Service).
There are many different cloud service providers in the market, such as, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, etc. Of these, AWS has been the most popular cloud service provider across the world, and has consistently held the number one position in the cloud computing market in terms of market shares of the cloud service providers.
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform, offering over 175 fully featured services from data centers globally. From infrastructure technologies like compute, storage and databases, to emerging technologies like machine learning, artificial intelligence, data lakes and analytics, and Internet of Things, Amazon Web Services offers it all to its users.
Cloud computing, like any other technology, is always growing, and evolving. AWS is no exception to this rule. AWS continues to innovate and expand, coming up with newer updates, releases and features. The most important thing about AWS is that it always listens to its customers, and develops solutions that would be useful for the users, something that would add value to the user experience.
According to Flexera, in 2019, about 45% of enterprises prioritized some or the other type of hybrid cloud computing solution. 31% of these enterprises saw public cloud as their top priority, while 9% preferred an on-site private cloud and about 6% chose a hosted private cloud for their requirements.
In 2019, AWS saw a whopping 67% adoption rate, while Microsoft Azure is fast catching up with a 60% adoption rate. On the third place is the Google Cloud Platform with a 20% adoption rate.
To put it simply, AWS is the de facto leader in the cloud computing market. It has achieved an Accounting Rate of Return (ARR) of about $10 billion! Take the below graph. It shows the interest shown by people all over the world in AWS, estimated through the Google Searches, as measured by Google Trends –
AWS in the future
In the first quarter of 2020, AWS revenues grew by 33% compared to Q4 2019. This shows the continued growth that AWS tends to enjoy in the market. With the Coronavirus pandemic crisis, the need to move to the cloud has increased, and reports have shown that spending on cloud computing across enterprises has increased.
In the past few years, AWS has worked to establish strategic partnerships with important players in different segments to ensure the AWS platform becomes all the more valuable for the users. AWS’ Partner Network or APN is leading the change by opening up partnerships with outstanding players across domains and segments, adding to the strategic advantage that AWS has in the market. Some of the most notable ones that would definitely play a defining role in the future of AWS, and consequently that of cloud computing include –
AWS – Nokia Partnership
AWS partnered with Nokia for rolling out 5G specific digital services. Last year, in November 2019, Nokia had announced that its Common Software Foundation (CSF) platform now supports AWS thereby offering Communication Service Providers (CSPs) an additional deployment choice as well as faster time-to-service when rolling out new 5G or digital services. Many Nokia powered 5G networks are already live in leading global markets like the US, Japan and South Korea, which has turned the CSPs to plan public cloud options to improve their services and delivery. AWS is the perfect partner for this. In June 2019, a CSF-based cloud-native system for automating applications integration and customization procedures was rolled out on AWS. Owing to the partnership, all new Nokia software cloud-native network functions and applications that come up in the future would be available on AWS when released. This will definitely lead to faster and more cost-efficient service delivery for CSPs.
With this partnership, AWS is all set to rule the world as more and more 5G rollouts take place. Nokia is a leading player in the 5G space and together AWS and Nokia will definitely drive innovation in this space in the future.
AWS – Veritas Partnership
Veritas is an advanced technology and storage competency partner in the AWS Partner Network (APN). Through its technical integrations with AWS, Veritas offers organizations control over their data management. From backing up the S3 to archiving the S3 Glacier, from migrating the workloads to EC2 to ensure critical applications remain highly available and recoverable across multiple availability zones, Veritas provides AWS users with high performance cloud solutions at scale. This puts enterprises in control of their data as well as how it is managed. With the world moving towards increasing accessibility without compromising on security, this is a very important partnership.
AWS – OpenText Partnership
In May 2020, OpenText announced its strategic partnership with AWS. This is a further thrust to the OpenText Anywhere strategy, and facilitates customer choice in the cloud. While the strategic partnership is the latest development, OpenText cloud-native applications like Hightail, Covisint, CatalystSecure, etc. are already available on AWS. This partnership will shape the future for IM products and solutions on the cloud, helping create an information advantage for the users.
AWS – Unisys Partnership
Unisys and AWS are ensuring that their cloud clients can achieve their business goals and adopt cloud computing securely by working to protect the network connections to AWS cloud. Unisys brings NSA and CSIC certified solutions for securing client networks on AWS. Unisys holds the exclusive AWS MSP Collaborates designation while also being a Well Architected Framework (WAF) partner. With this partnership, responsiveness with modern applications will be enhanced, accounting practices will be improved, and productivity will increase with the use of mobile technology.
The way forward
These are just some of the recent partnerships AWS has established through its APN. AWS is growing with a strategic, customer-centric vision and it has become a force to be reckoned with. It is only obvious that when the future of a platform is so enviably bright, how bright would be the future of professionals who are skilled in working with this platform. The future is very promising for cloud computing professionals, especially ones who have undergone a thorough cloud computing with AWS training from a reputed institute and are AWS certified.
